Computer basics workshops

PCC’s Opportunity Centers offer no-cost workshops that can help improve your digital skills. Computer Basics workshops are offered in person once a month at each location. Our centers are located in NE Portland and Beaverton. English Language Learners are welcome to attend this workshop. Each lesson is taught at a beginner level and reviews important vocabulary.

Computer basics for English language learners

42nd Avenue offers a monthly two-day workshop for learners to improve their digital skills. Each lesson is taught in English at a beginner level and covers essential vocabulary. Students will explore new topics and follow along on a computer. Join us and practice your English while you learn a new skill!

Computer and internet basics
Day 1: Computer basics
  • Gain confidence with using a computer
  • Practice mouse and keyboard skills
  • Learn basic computer vocabulary
Day 2: Internet basics
  • Gain confidence with navigating the web
  • Learn about web links
  • Understand internet safety techniques
Google Workspace basics
Day 1: Getting started with Google Workspace
  • Learn how to access your files remotely
  • Gain a basic understanding of how to use Google Drive
  • Practice sharing, uploading, downloading and managing files
Day 2: Gmail and Google Calendar
  • Learn about a variety of helpful features in Gmail
  • Practice creating a professional email and signature
  • Learn how to create and share an event on Google Calendar
Google Docs and Sheets
Day 1: Google Docs
  • Gain confidence with creating, saving and sharing a Doc
  • Practice formatting text, modifying page layouts and adding visual effects
  • Learn basic editing tools like spelling and grammar check
Day 2: Google Sheets
  • Gain confidence with creating, saving and sharing a Sheets workbook
  • Practice modifying cells, columns and rows
  • Learn how to use filters and basic formulas
Creating Engaging Presentations
Day 1: Google Slides
  • Learn how to use themes, colors and formatting to design your slides
  • Practice adding photos, links, and videos to make your slides more engaging
  • Learn how to organize your content to get your message across with ease
Day 2: Presentations
  • Get tips and tricks to improve your presentation skills
  • Use your slides to practice speaking in front of others
  • Gain confidence in your presentation skills
