Accessibility features
Each campus maintains an inventory of accessibility equipment:
- Hardware may include adjustable desk heights to accommodate wheelchairs, large screen monitors, headphones with mics, ergonomic chairs, keyboards, and mice.
- Adjustable desks are equipped with electric motors that allow the height to be adjusted with the push of a button.
- Ergonomic chairs are tailored to fit the natural curvature of the spine, support proper posture, and adapt to the user’s movements.
- Large screen monitors are computer displays that have significantly larger screen sizes compared to standard monitors.
- DaVinci Enhanced Vision workstations which provide a desktop magnification camera and display, along with full-page text-to-speech (OCR) software.
- Software may include audible software, which speaks to the user as the mouse is scrolled over text, and text enlargement software.
- Freedom Scientific Fusion is screen reader software designed to aid individuals with vision impairments. Fusion combines two programs, JAWS (Job Access With Speech) and ZoomText, to provide a comprehensive suite of tools for screen reading, screen magnification, and visual enhancements.
- Natural Reader is a text-to-speech software designed to convert written text into spoken words and is helpful for individuals who have difficulties with reading, such as those with dyslexia, those who are learning a language, or people who prefer auditory learning.
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) is screen reader software designed to enable blind and visually impaired users to interact with and access computers running the Windows operating system.
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) is a screen reader that assists with navigating the login screen on SCC computers.
- OrbitNote enables students and faculty to: annotate PDFs with highlights or drawing markups, utilize text-to-voice tools within a pdf; and support comment text and audio streams.
- Click here to add the OrbitNote Chrome extension to Google Chrome.
- Read & Write is a tool designed to assist individuals with reading, writing, studying, and research tasks, particularly those with dyslexia, learning difficulties, or other literacy challenges.

Additional computing resources
Other computing resources may be found in PCC libraries. Also, many academic departments manage specialized computer labs for students taking their classes.
Requesting software
Faculty chairs and Deans can use the IT Service Request page to access the Classroom Software Request form, allowing faculty to request software in PCC Classrooms and Computer Labs. All software requests must be approved by a faculty department chair or division dean. Software installation only takes place between terms and must be requested by the 5th week of the prior term to ensure enough time for various teams to ensure functionality and accessibility requirements are met.
