Linux
The hardest part of accessing the PCCWiFi service from Linux (including Android) is that the configuration interface can vary widely. These settings are general and interface-neutral. Depending on the client (“supplicant”), when it first interacts with the access point it might fill in some of the needed settings. Again, this can vary. Anything required that isn’t auto-filled must be added by hand.
Here are the settings; they may not appear in this order.
- The security mode should be “WPA/WPA2 Enterprise” – the client might display it differently but it should look like this.
- The authentication method is protected EAP (PEAP).
- The anonymous identity can be left blank or unchanged.
- If there’s a “domain” field then it should be set to “pcc.edu“. This is perhaps the easiest setting to get wrong or omit, and some clients won’t work without it.
- The PEAP version should be “automatic”.
- The inner authentication method should be “MSCHAPv2”.
- The username is the MyPCC username.
- The password is your MyPCC password.
- Note: There may be a need to check the “No certificate is required” box, depending upon your OS versioning
Google Pixel 2
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: none
- CA certificate: System Certificate
- Domain: pcc.edu
- Identity: your PCC username
- Anonymous identity: leave blank
- Password: your MyPCC password
Eduroam
Eduroam is a wireless connection that can be leveraged by PCC students and students from other colleges that participate in the Eduroam consortium.
Eduroam sign-in configurations
- On your device, connect to eduroam.
- Make sure that for EAP method, PEAP is selected.
- Tap Phase 2 authentication, and then select MSCHAPV2.
- Username: Your MyPCC Email Address
Password: Your MyPCC Password- If asked for a Domain, enter pcc.edu
- CA certificate and User certificate are both Unspecified (or System defaults if Unspecified is not an option).
- Tap Connect.
- Anonymous Identity you can leave that blank.
- If asked to accept the certificate once you try to connect, select Yes.
Note: Additional information about how to connect to this service can be found on our Eduroam Service’s page.
Wireless Q&A
Wireless troubleshooting?
As Information Technology updates how it delivers wireless to our customers, at times you may encounter issues getting connected. A great first step to try and resolve this issue is to forget the wireless network on your device, then attempt to reconnect.
If this still doesn’t resolve your issues, please reach out to the IT Service Desk at 971-722-4400.
Where is wireless available?
Wireless access points are available at all PCC campuses and centers. Due to the physical construction of the buildings, signal strength and service availability may vary within each location. Please report any wireless issues to the IT Service Desk at 971-722-4400.
Who can access the wireless network?
The following individuals can access our network:
- All current college faculty and staff
- Current students (must be enrolled in the current term)
- College guests
- Contractors and vendors. PCC managers can request access for vendors and other long-term guests
How secure is it?
PCC-Wireless uses an 802.1x secure network protocol. It is encrypted from your device to the wireless network access point. However, you should always be cautious when entering personal information such as passwords, or credit card numbers. If you are in doubt, wait until you have a wired connection before submitting any personal information over the internet.
