New ADA Accessibility Rules for Web Content & Mobile Apps
In 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) created new regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that make state and local government websites, apps, and online content accessible to people with disabilities. For PCC, these requirements are not new. PCC enacted a digital accessibility policy in 2018 that closely matches the new requirements.
What does this mean for me?
The college must make sure all web content and applications meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
The ruling applies to all digital content and tools adopted by the college, including student information systems, online learning platforms, websites, documents, and applications used by the college, for example:
Instructional Materials
Documents
Web Content
Software & Apps
Video & Multimedia Content
Communication Access
