  • PCC offers scholarship opportunities for students with disabilities, including a robust opportunity for students who have experienced spinal cord injuries. This is an amazing opportunity to offer financial assistance to students in the Portland area who are interested in pursuing their academic goals in a supportive college environment. Those who are interested should apply through the PCC Scholarship website, or fill out this quick interest form.

Syllabus
  • Creating an Accessible Syllabus
  • PCC Syllabus Statement: The college recommends that you include a disability statement on your syllabus. For example, “PCC is committed to ensuring that classes are accessible. Accessible Ed & Disability Resources works with students and faculty to minimize barriers. If students elect to use approved academic accommodations, they must provide in advance formal notification from Accessible Ed & Disability Resources to the instructor.” Statements like these preserve the student’s privacy and also indicate your willingness to provide assistance. Bring this statement to the attention of your class at the first class meeting. Please also use the syllabus upload link on any accommodation notices you receive.
  • There is a great resource from Tulane University that provides examples and sources. Categories include use of images, text, rhetoric, and policy.
  • The Universal Design Syllabus Rubric from UDL Universe by the California State University system.
  • Project Shift provides information regarding syllabus statements and includes examples with a discussion of implicit messages.
