Siteimprove is PCC’s tool for monitoring digital accessibility for our public-facing websites. Siteimprove provides an accessibility score measuring how well our web pages are meeting the WCAG 2.0 standards. Siteimprove evaluates pages on the public PCC website. It does not review pages behind a login such as MyPCC or D2L Brightspace.

Accessible technology assessments are part of the PCC procurement process. Assessments begin with a review of existing accessibility documentation, such as a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) or accessibility white paper, and/or feedback/comments from community forums or listservs. Next, experienced staff will evaluate the software, and end-user testing will evaluate the functionality and ease of use.

PCC uses tools to evaluate the accessibility of course content in our Learning Management System, D2L. Ally checks course pages (HTML) and uploaded files (PDFs, Word Documents, etc.) and assigns an accessibility score for each.

PCC has developed and curated training materials and sessions related to digital accessibility. Participation in this training has been largely voluntary, but working with managers and the teams within PSEC (People Strategy, Equity, and Culture) will strengthen our approach and ensure training is assigned regularly to individuals based on job duties. We expect to be able to add reports that track the completion of training by relevant employees per division.

Institutional Effectiveness includes disability as a demographic in program review data sets. Students who have formally disclosed disability status to the college are counted in the “disability” group while students who have not formally disclosed are counted in the “no known disability” group. It is important to acknowledge that:

• Students in the “disability” group have the choice to use accommodation or not, so faculty are not always aware of a student’s disability status
• Census data and prior campus climate studies would suggest that many students in the “no known disability” group do experience undisclosed disability

The data that is available for disability as a demographic is similar to the information available for other demographics such as race, age, and gender, and provides information that is useful for understanding trends in the rates of participation and success rates for each program or high enrollment course.
