The oak to the lower right of this building is a large mature tree diminished in scale to a tiny bonsai by this monstrous, wrapped professional building, looming and glowing against a dark sky like an apparition from a futuristic film. The drama of the polarized contrasts of light and dark are characteristic of the work of Loren Nelson, whose control of value range and sense of drama are both in evidence here. This image is part of an ongoing surreal series of 'wrapped buildings" which the photographer has been working on for years, and which range from the monumental and menacing to the weirdly mournful.
