A longtime teacher and former director of the art program at Montana State University, John Bashor is known for his love of color, expressive brushwork and often whimsical approach to his subjects, many drawn from vignettes of daily life. "Escalator" is an example of such work, influenced by the psychedelic art of the 1960’s. A parade of rainbow people ascend and descend on escalators surrounded by giant murals or ads. The lone duck at the bottom serves as a comical counterpoint to this bustling, urban scene.
