This is a painting based on a section of Edward Hopper's famous 1929 painting "Chop Suey" (private collection). The painting was done as a demonstration in Andres' Painting I class of how to crop an existing work of art to an awkward format similar to an unfolded matchbook and reduce it to a cheaply printed graphic style characteristic of the printing on old matchbooks in limited colors. The exercise was one of translation of a work of art from one refined painting style to a crudely graphic one.
