The landscape of Sauvie Island has attracted painters from Portland for years – perhaps because it has a very different character from the rest of the region. The island landscape is as flat as Holland, yet the dikes allow for elevated views. This view from Reeder Road has been painted by such diverse artists as Phyllis Trowbridge, Tom Prochaska and Stephen Hayes. This version of the view by Mark Andres emphasizes the diverging paths of road and water bathed in a crisp, silvery light. This work was exhibited at an invitational show at Gallery 114 in 2009 called "Distillation" curated by David Schell.
