Harry Widman's lifelong interest in the human form could range from improvisational abstraction (see "Exotic History" and its related studies) to realistic drawings from the model. This uncharacteristically realistic work shows the artist's abilities to convey volume through the scrutiny of contour line and tone. Widman had a long and distinguished career as a teacher at the Portland Museum Art School where this study may have been done as a demonstration to his students.
