Course Description

Designed to expose students to Cockpit Resource Management. Focuses on workload management and check list usage. Flight training fees apply and cover a specific amount of training; please see the Course Curriculum and Outcome Guide for detailed information. Co-requisite: AVS 207

Addendum to Course Description

The Pilot Performance class will teach students the importance of an efficient cockpit. Standards in the airline industry will be implemented through checklist usage, job workload, teamwork, and professionalism. A flight training device and various aircraft will be used to accomplish this. Lectures, discussions, demonstration sessions and lab practice, supported by written and multi-media materials, will present the student with the information needed to accomplish this. Class participants will be expected to invest time outside of class to master the course content. Material missed by students during an allowed absence will be made available to them as selected by the instructor and the applicable FAR requirements.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

a) Understand the importance of Cockpit Resource Management.

b) Demonstrate how to run a safe and efficient cockpit.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

At the beginning of the course, the instructor will explain the methods used to evaluate and record student progress, and the criteria for assigning a course grade. Evaluation methods may include one or more of the following: Tests and quizzes, attendance, participation, class assignments, and class projects.

Course Content and Outcome Guides are prepared by the Aviation Science Subject Area Curriculum Committee and approved by College management.
Flight training devices and aircraft will be used during training. Students will be paired together with an instructor simulating the cockpit environment. Areas covered during this training will include:

  1. Checklist usage
  2. Communication
  3. Teamwork
  4. Workload management
  5. Professionalism
  6. Airline standards
