Course Description

Introductory class in construction estimating concentrating on basic residential estimating techniques. Using plans for a small house, students will learn how to organize and prepare estimates, quantity take-off and pricing, and fundamentals of bid assembly. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Perform thorough and accurate material takeoffs on residential construction projects
  • Perform thorough and accurate labor estimates on residential construction projects
  • Price materials and labor on residential construction projects

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Individually demonstrate thorough and accurate material and labor takeoffs by completing two "Mastery Projects"
  • Work collaboratively to calculate labor, material quantities, and unit costs
  • Individually research and price alternate materials
  • Individually complete an accurate job estimation sheet
