Course Description

Introduces the general properties and uses of antibody molecules. Includes an overview of immune responses, biosynthesis of immunoglobulin, obtaining, purifying and labeling antibodies, and using antibodies in a variety of common applications (ELISA, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunocytochemistry, antibody-based affinity chromatography). Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Plan, carry out and interpret the results of several different immunochemical procedures using standard laboratory protocols, including, but not be limited to, Ab purification, ELISA and western blot.
  • Communicate the methods and results of laboratory work in the form of standard scientific reports, oral presentations, and laboratory notebooks.
