Course Description

Covers essential skills and practices for the procurement of a work site for co-operative education. Focuses on company research, career exploration, identification of learning objectives, and job applications.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Apply job search skills including research, resume and cover letter development, and interview techniques to apply for an internship and employment in the industry.

  • Written assignments (resume, letters, applications, reflection pieces)

  • Research personal interests and aptitudes regarding work experience in the bioscience industry

  • Conduct informational interviews with job sites of interest

  • Prepare and submit applications including resume, cover letter, and thank you letter

  • Complete weekly writing assignments to document goals and progress in holding interviews and applying for positions

  • Demonstrate professionalism in business writing

  • Participate in team meetings to provide peer support, review of application materials, share opportunities, and discuss progress

  • Prepare learning objectives and activities for work experience position
