Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
-
Design, document and oversee a digital design of a product that meets established requirements.

Apply industry standard tools and methodologies for completing each phase of a product development project.
-
Work collaboratively to communicate technical information in a team project environment.
-
Use best practices in human relations to resolve team disagreements.
-
Provide status updates about projects in a timely manner upon request that align with the correct phase of a design project.
Course Activities and Design
Complete activities and/or assignments, which show an understanding of the product development process.
-
Complete assignments, projects, quizzes and/or class activities requiring teams to collaborate in designing a product that meets predetermined requirements.
-
Use 3D CAD to design, document and analyze a product.
-
Understand and apply the typical product development phases used in industry
-
For each phase of the project: demonstrate knowledge of associated tools and deliverables where applicable
-
Participate in, and contribute to, class discussions and activities.

Complete a term project
Outcome Assessment Strategies
The following must be assessed:

Develop a design using CAD that meets requirements.

Identify the attributes of an effective product development team.
-
Given various team human relation scenarios, determine the best course of action to improve team dynamics and effectiveness.

Describe the status of the product development phase

Complete a design brief or a summary PRD
At least one of the following must be assessed:

Test plan document

FMEA document

Tolerance analysis

Assembly drawing

Bill of materials

A prototype
