Course Description

Introduces the creation of professional graphic images using Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw and Bridge. Includes image resolution, file formats, copyright issues, and using various tools and features. Recommended: CAS 133 or equivalent file management skills. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Use the software interface, tools and features to effectively create and modify images.
  2. Produce professional composites.
  3. Use critical thinking skills to create original imagery.

  • Projects demonstrating the skills to create and modify images to produce professional looking composites and posters.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

  1. Manage and organize files and batch processes using Adobe Bridge
  2. Adjust images non-destructively using Camera Raw and Photoshop
  3. Understand raster and vector graphics
  4. Manage workflow effectively
  5. Produce digital documents by learning to:
    1. Crop, rotate, straighten and transform
    2. Manage multiple content layers
    3. Use layer styles and adjustment layers
    4. Create selections using various tools
    5. Create and modify masks
    6. Create quality vector text, shapes and paths using the pen and shape tools
    7. Add and modify text
    8. Use clone and healing tools
    9. Alter content with Content-aware fill
    10. Apply filters including blur and sharpen
    11. Use painting and drawing tools
    12. Create and use smart objects
    13. Set up files for print and web output
  6. Understand copyright issues related to graphics
  7. Prepare images for professional portfolio
