Course Description

Introduces the creation of sophisticated, dynamic, interactive and fully functional websites using WordPress, a Content Management System (CMS). Includes installing and modifying templates, creating efficient site navigation using menus, organizing a site using components, enhancing a site with plugins, creating a blog, and creating user functionality with user logins. Recommended: CAS 111D, CAS 206, and CAS 215; placement into RD 115 and WR 115. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of this course, student will be able to:
1. Use WordPress software to create personal and/or business websites following current professional and/or industry standards.
2. Use critical thinking skills to design and create dynamic WordPress websites.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Grading of this class will be based on completion of project(s) developed individually or as part of a team. Assessments may include:
? Completion of a functional multi?page web site using WordPress program. The site may include some or all of the following:
o Categories, & Posts
o Components, Plugins, & Widgets
o Site navigation using Menus
o Blog
o User Login
? Tests or quizzes

? WordPress program in a remote environment
? Installing and modifying templates
? Managing site content using categories and posts
? Site navigation using menus
? Installing and configuring components
? Installing and configuring plugins and widgets, including but not limited to:
o Calendars
o Photo/video galleries
? Blog creation
? Introduction to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as it is accomplished in a WordPress website
? Other skills as time permits
