Course Description

This course provides fundamental training/review in IV Therapy techniques; standards of practice; math calculation practice; identification and understanding of veins, catheters, central lines, implanted ports, complications and their reduction.

Intended Outcomes for the course

•    Understand issues of the skin related to IV insertion and care
•    Identify appropriate veins, catheter size, flow rates, and complications
•    Understand techniques for one and two handed IV starts
•    Differentiate types of central lines and their care and maintenance
•    Perform basic IV math calculations 
•    Verbalize steps to access implanted ports
•    Practice proper flushing standards of practice and reduce CLABSIs.
