Course Description

This course provides hands on skills training in IV Therapy techniques with focus on standards of practice, identification and understanding of veins, catheters, central lines, implanted ports, complications and their reduction.

Intended Outcomes for the course

•    Identify appropriate veins, catheter size, flow rates, and complications
•    Practice techniques for one and two handed IV starts
•    Differentiate types of central lines and their care and maintenance
•    Perform basic IV math calculations 
•    Verbalize steps to access implanted ports
•    Practice proper flushing standards of practice and reduce CLABSIs.
