Course Description
PREREQ: Pharmacy Tech CEU 941Q; Continuing basic to advanced pharmacy measurements, abbreviations and calculations. Continuing Pharmacology. Students will learn to read and identify components of medication labels, written and electronic prescriptions, and DEA numbers. Will learn processing and handling of medication and medication orders. Sterile and non-sterile compounding, sterile preparation, and Aseptic technique are incorporated. Pharmacy technology, to include Inventory management, ordering systems, billing and electronic health-records systems are reviewed. Quality assurance: the importance of patient safety and medication safety are discussed. Workplace interactions, professionalism and other soft-skills are incorporated. Lessons supported by weekly lab activities. Comprehensive review of topics and test-taking strategies will prepare students to sit for the PTCB exam.
Intended Outcomes for the course
1. Apply critical thinking and interpersonal skills, such as conflict resolution and teamwork.
2. Perform mathematical calculations essential to the pharmacy technicians role
3. Demonstrate ability to process and handle medication and medication orders, including sterile preparation and compounding.
4. Sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE)
