Course Description
Intro to Aquatic Animal Medicine is for Certified Vet Techs and Veterinarians introducing the basic concepts needed to begin treating fish as patients. Topics covered: fish anatomy and physiology, husbandry, water quality assessment and common fish diseases, as well as fish anesthetic, diagnostic and treatment techniques.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Students will be able to:
- identify fish species commonly kept as pets
- apply knowledge of fish anatomy, physiology and husbandry to disease prevention and
recognition
- recognize common water quality parameters, their role in causing fish disease, and how to
measure them in a clinical setting
- recognize clinical signs of fish disease
- describe basic diagnostic and anesthetic techniques used in fish medicine
- describe basic treatments of commonly encountered fish diseases
