Course Description

This course is to increase capacity for DBE Architects and Engineers to successfully perform projects for prime contractors with ODOT contracts. A business advisor will be available for all participants throughout the training.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Develop ways to adjust to customer’s demands and learn to seek a “win-win” outcome, understand project management as a process and as a communication and management tool, Understand basic project management principles, management practices, and tools for your business, Become familiar with how to recruit and hire employees based on knowledge, skills, ability and fit, Be able to identify what motivates employees to succeed and stay in the job, understand when Prevailing Wages apply to projects, Learn how to prepare certified payroll reports, Learn about current available Estimation Software options, Identify the cost and sources of acquiring the right tool for your business, Learn the requirements of bonding, Learn who is/is not required to have a Public Works bond, Learn how to read and understand contracts and subcontracts, Understand ODOT’s governing documents for construction contracts, including Standard specifications for Construction and General Conditions for Public Improvement Contracts, Prime Contractors Panel Discussion: Understand what prime contractors are looking for in subs, Learn how to leverage networking and relationships into new contracts.
