Course Description

Provides information, techniques, strategies and skills helpful in becoming more efficient in note taking, active listening, using college resources, and taking exams. Includes development of skills in scheduling study time, mindset, memory strategies, collaboration, and critical thinking. Requires a learning agreement between the instructor and students that outlines learning goals specific to the number of credits the students are completing. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course can be taught for 1, 2, 3 or 4 credits.  Faculty will outline learning goals specific to the number of credits the students are completing.  Specialized sections may focus on specific program areas to meet major program requirements. Some sections may be offered with specific discipline themes such as math, nursing or other themes.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Utilize time management techniques to support successful learning.

  2. Apply effective listening and note taking strategies.

  3. Employ effective strategies utilizing class resources such as video, audio, and/or written materials. 

  4. Implement strategies for memory and test taking.

  5. Identify and utilize PCC resources that support successful learning. 

  6. Apply critical thinking skills to analyze, interpret, and evaluate course content and information.

  7. Understand mindset in terms of learning strategies and outcomes.

  8. Work collaboratively with others using effective and inclusive strategies.

  9. Meet learning outcomes specific to the credit awarded as outlined in advance through a written learning contract, and as appropriate to the credit awarded for this course.
