Course Description

Covers job searching and resume building skills for civil and mechanical engineering technicians. Includes resumes, interviewing, communication skills, and professionalism in the workplace. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon  completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Use several tools and methods for finding industry-specific employment.
  2. Create a list of transferable skills that can be highlighted in an interview and on a resume.
  3. Create a professional, industry-ready resume and cover letter.
  4. Practice behavioral questions in preparation for an professional interview.  
  5. Understand and use appropriate workplace etiquette.

Course Activities and Design

The format of the class will be a mix of lecture and practical application.  Activities will include working in groups, completing a mock interview, hearing from industry partners and creating an interview-ready employment portfolio.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Grading will be based on participation, attendance, quality and completeness of the assignments.
