Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Students will no longer be going to Oregon Health Sciences University Dental School. The student will continue to expand their educational base by developing knowledge and skill in the areas of advanced dental charting, rubber dam, oral surgery, endodontics and periodontics. Students will be exptected to demonstrate increased proficiency and efficiency in basic dental assisting skills learned in DA 111, as well as greater levels of motivation, self-direction and anticipation.
Students must have completed DA 110 and DA 111 with a grade of C or better, or have an instructor or program administrator approval. Concurrent enrollment in DA 112 required.
Intended Outcomes for the course

Perform, at an intermediate level, dental assisting chairside duties utilizing safe methods and demonstrating professionalism in the PCC Dental Clinic and at OHSU School of Dentistry.

Demonstrate the increased ability to work efficiently and proficiently, anticipating the needs of the dentist during clinical procedures.
Course Activities and Design
Students will no longer be assisting at OHSU School of Dentistry. Students will be expected to perform # 1 and #2 intended outcomes listed above at other assigned clinical dental sites.

Follow OSHA Universal Precautions and Hazardous Material Guidelines prior to, during and after, providing dental care on a patient.

Assess current health of patient using health history information, taking and recording vital signs, and using observation skills.

Demonstrate preparation and delivery of dental procedure armamentarium.

Review patient information and document in dental charts. Take and record vital signs in patient charts Document dental conditions from patient oral cavities and radiographs.

Hours: 6Outcomes:Perform, at an intermediate level, dental assisting chairside duties utilizing safe methods and demonstrating professionalism in the PCC Dental Clinic and at OHSU School of Dentistry.Demonstrate the increased ability to work efficiently and proficiently, anticipating the needs of the dentist during clinical procedures.Activities:Students work in teams to complete activities assigned utilizing team building concepts as introduced in DA 111.
