Course Description

Covers intermediate clinical training and practical experience in general dentistry and dental assisting duties and responsibilities. Introduces dental specialties such as periodontics, oral surgery, and periodontal surgery. Provides an opportunity to gain chairside dental assisting experiences through the PCC Dental Clinic. Introduces the intraoral camera, isolite system, and independent charting of existing restorations and conditions from radiographs and clinical evaluation. Continues experience in electronic records and dental software.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Perform dental assisting chairside duties while demonstrating professionalism, safety, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the operator at an intermediate level.

  2. Demonstrate the proper use and grasp of dental instruments.

  3. Demonstrate the procedural steps, armamentarium, instrumentation, and post-operative instructions for various dental specialties.

  4. Demonstrate competence in dental charting and the use of the electronic records.

  5. Display professionalism towards patients and others while assisting with chairside duties.

Prepare a nitrous oxide/oxygen unit for use
