Course Description

Covers advanced concepts in the clinical aspect of dental assisting. Continues exploration of dental specialties, public health dentistry, and best practices management.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Distinguish the various roles and responsibilities of auxiliary personnel as they relate to dental specialties.
  2. Describe the procedural steps utilizing correct armamentarium, instrumentation, and post-operative instructions for various dental specialties.
  3. Explain available oral health products for patients and their uses.
  4. Explain responsible, safe, and effective methods for the disposal of hazardous waste following best practices management. 
  5. Develop and present a community-based learning project focusing on oral health.
