Course Description

Covers advanced clinical training and practical experience in clinical dental assisting duties and responsibilities. Provides an opportunity to work in a clinic setting applying the principles and practices learned in the classroom.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Perform, at an advanced-level (entry-level employment), dental assisting chairside duties while utilizing safe methods and demonstrating professionalism.
  2. Follow post-operative instructions for various dental procedures and specialty treatments.
  3. Follow the procedural steps and use the correct armamentarium and instrumentation needed for temporary crown fabrication chairside.
  4. Demonstrate the delivery of whitening trays and provide post-op instructions.
  5. Demonstrate the use of an intraoral camera on a patient.
  6. Identify and chart intraoral dental restorations on a patient.
  7. Demonstrate the delivery and maintenance care of prosthesis.

  • Educate patients regarding removable appliance home care instructions 
  • Perform four-handed procedures with increased efficiency
  • Fabricate a provisional crown chairside 
  • Place a dental dam on a patient
