Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

Identify viral and bacterial diseases and discuss proper infection control practices with dental personnel and patient.

Explain the modes of disease transmission and the steps necessary to break the chain of infection.

Differentiate between disinfection and sterilization and explain when and why each technique is utilized in the dental office.

Identify the roles of the CDC’s Infection Control Guidelines and OSHA’s Occupational Exposure to Blood-borne Pathogen Standard and the their impact in an oral healthcare setting.

Explain waste management in the dental office and follow proper procedures in handling and disposal of multiple types of dental waste.
