Course Description

Covers clinical training and practical experience in expanded function dental assisting duties as allowed by the Oregon Dental Practice Act. Focuses on the rationale and procedures for coronal polishing, amalgam and composite finishing/polishing, fluoride application, and EFDA and EFODA Orthodontic specialty procedures.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Perform coronal polishing using correct and safe technique and positioning.
  2. Demonstrate amalgam and composite finishing and polishing using correct and safe techniques.
  3. Apply fluoride using correct and safe techniques.
  4. Perform, at a basic level, expanded function orthodontic duties while utilizing correct and safe methods.
