Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

Identify the properties, applications, indications, and contraindications of dental materials used in prosthodontics and various dental specialties.

Recognize the uses and contraindications of dental materials used in Expanded Function Dental Assisting (EFDA) duties.

- Discuss investment materials and describe the processes used during casting procedures
- Describe burnout and casting procedures for inlay and crown construction
- Describe the types of ceramics used in dentistry
- Describe the fabrication of temporary crowns
- Describe the steps in placement of a denture soft liner
- Recognize the new technologies used in dentistry today
- Describe the steps in fabrication of a full denture

Activities: Students work in groups to research new technology and present information in both oral and written form.
Research dental materials used at OHSU - students create a written narrative and an oral presentation of their findings.
