Course Description
Provides hands-on practical training essential for dental hygiene practice. Covers fundamental skills in dental radiography including patient positioning, exposure techniques, and digital sensor placement. Emphasizes basic intraoral radiographic imaging through practical exercises and simulations on manikins.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in intraoral radiographic techniques to produce high-quality digital radiographic images.
- Apply and adhere to radiation safety guidelines.
- Operate imaging software.
- Demonstrate proficiency on manikins in preparation for performing radiographic procedures on patients.
Course Activities and Design
Course activities to include:
- Paralleling technique
- Bisecting technique
- Horizontal bitewings
- Vertical bitewings (7-8 images)
- Full mouth series (indications for 18 and 20 images series)
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Laboratory activities on dental manikins with formative and summative skill evaluations
Final practical exam
