Course Description

Explores the connection between oral health and the well-being of the community. Focuses on a foundational understanding of public health principles as they relate to oral health promotion, disease prevention, and community-based dental programs.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of public health concepts.
  2. Explore dental care delivery models in the US and globally.
  3. Review patient financial responsibility and financing options. 
  4. Discuss the importance of legislation affecting dental hygiene practice and advocacy efforts.
  5. Describe the skills necessary to educate and promote dental health among diverse target populations.
