Course Description
Introduces control panels and their functions. Covers how to identify, repair, replace, and adjust various control panels. Includes utilizing diagnostic equipment for programming control software.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
- Identify current and legacy control panels.
- Discuss the major functions of a generator control panel.
- Compare generator control panel features.
- Remove and replace control panels.
- Upgrade control panels.
- Navigate wiring diagrams and ladder logic for control panels.
- Adjust and configure a control panel.
- Evaluate possible hardware changes needed for an upgraded control panel.
- Identify the available data links on a control panel.
- Connect and program annunciators.
Course Activities and Design
This is an outcome-based course utilizing a lecture/lab format. This course includes videos, assignments, demonstrations, lectures, and hands on learning. The course will be taught using Caterpillar equipment and curriculum.

- Learn EMCP 4.1 and 4.2 inputs, outputs, programming, and navigation
- Learn how to perform control panel retrofits

- Learn control panel software changes and upgrades
