Course Description

Covers development of intermediate level skills to work with children ages birth - 5 years old in a group setting. Includes the use of developmentally appropriate methods to support guidance and conflict resolution, schedule and routine planning, fundamental curriculum development, and environmental modification. Recommended: ECE 262. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Create healthy, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children using knowledge of child development.
  2. Develop appropriate goals, curriculum, and teaching strategies for young children using an understanding of the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment.
  3. Develop positive relationships and supportive interactions with young children in an early childhood environment.
  4. Reflect on personal caregiving and teaching practices in order to promote positive outcomes for each child.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Participate in Mid-term and Final conferences with the mentoring team (Supervising Faculty and Mentor Lead Classroom Teacher) to review progress. 
  • Assessed on classroom practices by Mentor Teachers and Supervising Faculty throughout the term.
