Course Description

Covers family/provider relationships with infants and toddlers ages birth - 3. Includes establishing partnerships with parents, listening and responding to families needs, supporting culturally diverse families, culturally sensitive care, conducting business and handling difficult issues. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Students will:

  • Articulate the importance of respecting cultural and familial practices in caring for infants and toddlers.
  • Recognize responsive, respectful and relationship-based infant toddler care.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will:

  • Attend and actively participate in class and small group activities.

  • Complete written observations.

  • Complete a reflective journal.

Students will acquire skills and abilities relating to:

  • Ten keys to culturally sensitive care.

  • Providing the base for family support.

  • Understanding the normal behaviors and needs of parents of infants in care.

  • Parent-staff communication.
