Course Description
Explores strategies to actively engage infants through preschool-age children in science and math concepts. Covers planning experiences that are meaningful, challenging, developmentally and culturally appropriate for indoor and outdoor classrooms. Connects everyday knowledge and skills to math and science. Audit available.

Field trip to either Children's Museum or OMSI.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Describe math and science content with infants through preschool-age children.
- Create appropriate experiences and research-based teaching for mathematical and scientific concepts, methods, and language for indoor and outdoor classrooms for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
- Develop curricular examples to encourage children’s curiosity, imagination, flexibility, inventiveness, and persistence.
- Encourage preschool children to ask questions, conduct investigations, collect data, and look for answers.
- Provide math and science opportunities and investigations relevant to infant and toddler development.
- Develop math curriculum which includes integrating the knowledge of social, emotional, physical, cognitive, language development, developmentally and culturally appropriate pedagogy.
- Use child-centered and project-based learning relevant to infants, toddlers and preschool age children.

Individual reading, PowerPoint presentations, videos, case study, small and large groups, in-class presentations online activity plans, documentation boards field tip to Children's Museum and OMSI and Teacher Action Research,parent newsletter focused and science and math, connecting math and science to social, cognitive, emotional, physical, language development
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Action Teacher Research (defining a problem, developing questions, gather, analyzing and interpret data, and take action) connected to the course outcomes.
