Course Description
Provides an opportunity to gain training and experience teaching and counseling sixth graders in an outdoor setting. Requires attending two evening training sessions; spending one week at an outdoor camp; keeping a journal and submitting a summation paper to the PCC coordinator. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Use a variety of child management, supervision, and leadership skills in the outdoor classroom.
- Adapt instructional techniques to be accessible to and inclusive of all students.
- Instruct students using visual and auditory aides as well as hands-on activities.
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
-Design, preparation, implementation, evaluation of environmental education lessons
-Implementation of management techniques for 6th graders in both learning and living environments
-Modeling professional behavior
-Development of communication and problem solving skills with both students, colleagues, and supervisors
