Course Description

Introduces OSHAs General Duty Clause 5(a)(1) General Safety and Health Provisions, Competent Person, Qualified Person, Health Hazards in Construction, Electrical, Fall Protection, Stairways and Ladders, Scaffolding, Motor Vehicles, Hand & Power Tools, and Excavations. Awards a 10- hour General Industry - Outreach Completion Card from OSHA. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

The course also covers Record Keeping (CFR Part 1904). Students must attend 10 hours of classroom time and pass final exam to receive completion card.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Explain general safety as applied to OSHA standards.
  2. Demonstrate the basics of fall protection and prevention.
  3. Identify signs, signals, and barricades.
  4. Identify and demonstrate proper use of lifesaving equipment.
  5. Identify proper material handling, storage, use, and disposal.

These are required students learning outcomes per OSHA.

Course Activities and Design

In-class activities are made up of lecture, demonstrations, videos and discussion.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus.
