Course Description

The study of Article 250 in the NEC. Covers what has to be grounded and bonded and standards and rules associated with such. This class can be used towards Continuing Education Units for Oregon State electrical licensing purposes. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Course can also be used to meet the Washington State licensing renewal requirements through the WA/OR reciprocity agreement. A Course Completion Certificate for continuing education will be issued upon request to any participant who successfully passes the course. Attendance rosters will be sent to the state for certification purposes. Please note that the electrician's license renewal fee is not included in the cost of the course. A current National Electric Code Book is required.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Locate and correctly interpret those sections of the current NEC Code Book that relate to Safety Grounding Systems of any voltage.
  • Recognize the correct Bonding and Bonding devices for most types of electrical equipment and enclosures.
  • List and demonstrate installation procedures for the different types of Grounding Electrodes
  • Size correctly Grounding Electrodes, Grounding Conductors, and Bonding devices
  • Demonstrate familiarity with changes in Grounding and Bonding requirements in the current NEC Codebook

Course Activities and Design

The course is a lecture format using visual presentations of NEC approved Bonding and Grounding principles applied to both Utility Ground Fault Current Path and Premises Ground Fault Current Path.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus.
