Course Description

Examines cultural, social, behavioral and environmental public health issues. Investigates the causes and potential solutions for current community health issues, and overviews the organization of community and healthcare agencies. Explores career opportunities in community health. Includes community-based learning. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Examine the cultural, social, behavioral and environmental factors and issues that influence the health of the community.
  2. Understand the organization, role and functions of community health.
  3. Analyze how community health conditions influences the personal health of individuals.
  4. Identify community health professions, know job functions, and educational requirements.
  5. Provide a historical context for current public health issues.
