Course Description

Covers principles of personnel supervision and management of a health information department. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. Report staffing levels and productivity standards for health information functions.

  2. Interpret compliance with local, state, federal labor regulations.

  3. Adhere to work plans, policies, procedures, and resource requisitions in relation to job functions.

  4. Explain return on investment for employee training/development.

  5. Assess how cultural issues affect health, healthcare quality, cost and health information management.

  6. Summarize a data collection methodology to guide strategic and organizational management.

  7. Recognize how accounting methodologies and budget variances affect health information management (HIM).

  8. Recognize areas of risk in vendor and contract management.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with other students:

  1. Answer theoretical and application questions on information covered in the lecture, graded assignments and reading assignments.
