Course Description
Covers the collection, retrieval, analysis and quality review of administrative and clinical information and data.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze data while maintaining data quality, validity, and reliability.
- Verify timeliness, completeness, and appropriateness of data and data sources.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of health records.
- Abstract records for department indices, databases, and registries.
- Identify primary and secondary data sources and how they are maintained.
- Create data hierarchy charts, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, and entity-relationship diagrams.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with other students:
- Answer theoretical and application questions on information covered in the lecture, graded assignments and reading assignments.
- Develop a plan for a registry to collect medical data.
