Course Description

Explores values and ethics intrinsic to the human services profession, including standards outlined by the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) and the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE). Covers awareness of personal values, cultural bias, style, and philosophies, including how these personal characteristics affect service delivery. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Articulate an understanding of the NOHS/CSHSE ethical standards for work with clients and other professionals in the human services profession.
  • Examine appropriate professional boundaries and strategies for self care.
  • Reflect on professional self.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of diversity and the uniqueness of the individual.
