Course Description

Covers the use of Chief Architect, a CAD software program, for use by interior designers.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Create interior design drawings using Chief Architect.
  2. Create three-dimensional interior design drawings using Chief Architect.

Aspirational Goals

The interior design department at Portland Community College seeks to continuously improve the employability of the interior design graduates and certificate completers.  Knowledge of Chief Architect will enhance the employability of students who decide to take it.

Course Activities and Design

Hands-on lab time with the program

Instruction by an industry professional who is a Chief Architect user.

Create drawings using CAD tools and tricks

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Rubric for point to grade systems

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Knowledge of a widely used but not industry standard CAD program

Relegated to an interior design program elective, Chief Architect will not be utilized in other interior design courses as much as other more industry standard program.

Increases introductory interior design skill for program graduates and certificate completers
