Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Interface with design professionals to create a community of practice.
- Work as a team member in an interior design office.
- Compute basic budgets and understand and analyze profit margins.
Course Activities and Design
This course will is a lecture course with an bit of lab time. The format of lectures with important content gauged to support in class exercises and projects.
Visits to industry - field trips.
Verbal communication exercises and presentations
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be assessed by their project development and self-assess their skills as the were at the beginning of the class and at the end of the class.
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
Professional development and interpersonal communication - persuasive speech and communication as those themes influence design work.
Related Instruction
Computation
Hours: 15Compute basic budgets and understand profit margins.
Students will create a budget that they prepare as list or net pricing, then propose a profit for selling and sourcing.
Communication
Hours: 20Utilize an understanding of professional practice methodology, ethics, selling techniques, and communication/ listening skills.
Apply skills in leadership, negotiation, interpersonal and teamwork communication.
Research into different persuasive communication techniques. Create a project based on research and apply basic concepts to present day scenario involving product sales and administration.
Human Relations
Hours: 15Apply skills in leadership, negotiation, interpersonal and teamwork communication.
Students will work in groups to develop team strategies to solve assignment requirements.
