Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Students will be required to secure site locations. This will normally involve developing a resume and going through an interview process with the company. Once the site is identified, the instructor will meet at the site with both the student and supervisor to clarify the goals of the course and secure agreement signatures on the required forms. A post training survey will be completed by the employer, along with a reflection document by the student.
Intended Outcomes for the course
During the completion of this course, students will:
- Use common machine shop paperwork and documentation.
- Gain experience to read and use blueprints on the job to improve blueprint reading skills.
- Measure parts using precision measuring tools to improve their precision measurement accuracy.
- Apply shop math to improve shop math skills.
- Operate various machine shop equipment to gain experience.
Course Activities and Design
Machine Manufacturing Technology Cooperative Education students will have the opportunity to practice skills that they learned in class in actual industry settings. In some cases, students will learn other skill sets not learned in the classroom setting. They will also be gaining work experience to list on a resume or job application.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
At the completion of the course, the industry supervisor will complete a performance review document offering feedback on the success level of the cooperative education activity. Students will additionally write and submit a reflection paper describing the skills they learned and practiced during the cooperative education activity. Credit grading is pass/no pass only.
Related Instruction
Computation
Hours: 10- Use shop math to improve shop math skills.
Students will be required to do calculations from information attained on blue prints and other production documents in a production environment. The calculations will be based on shop math learned in MCH 120.
Communication
Hours: 15- Use common machine shop paperwork and documentation.
- Read and use blueprints on the job to improve blueprint reading skills.
- Apply shop math to improve shop math skills.
- Operate various machine shop equipment to gain experience on same.
Technical communication skills are practiced as students need to communicate questions related to job activities they are assigned to. Students learn to ask specific questions related to their current shop work by defining the subject and subject details, and what they need to resolve the issue or question at hand.
