Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Students who successfully complete this course will have a job marketing portfolio that will include but not limited to: 1) promotional materials such as business cards, web page, etc., 2) job contracts, bids, and proposals,3) copyright guidelines, and 4) entrepreneurial capabilities.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Create a working resume and a position targeted cover letter.
- Articulate individual professional background and qualifications verbally in under a minute.
- Describe the role social media has as it applies to finding and acquiring employment in the multimedia industry.
Course Activities and Design
Course material will be presented in a lecture format. This course is designed to maximize learning through the use of strategies such as outcome based instruction, collaborative learning, contextual application and performance based assessment. Lecture material will consist of discussion, diagrams, multimedia, and other educationally sound practices. Other activities will include hands-on utilization of multimedia software. Demonstration and handout materials will be provided.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Assessment is designed to indicate achievement of the course outcome and performance tasks. The instructor will outline the methods used to assess student progress and the criteria for assigning a grade at the beginning of the course. Assessment will be based upon a combination of in-class participation, attendance, examinations, and quality of the multimedia project(s). Determination of problem solving skills, team work, and communication skills may also be included.

- Explore how multimedia storytelling is used in marketing across multiple disciplines and industries.
- Gain understanding of marketing and personal branding and how they can be used to freelance or work for a business.
- Resume and portfolio formats.
- Gain an understanding of what information to include in a professional LinkedIn profile to support their career advancement.
- Practice building a portfolio or pitch deck.
- Networking and informational interviews can aid in their career advancement.
- Resources required in searching for, applying for, and obtaining employment in the multimedia industry.
- Role social media and website portfolio platforms have in finding and acquiring employment in the multimedia industry.
- Write and present an elevator pitch that demonstrates who they are and their skills in under 60 seconds.
