Course Description
Introduces the concepts, techniques, materials, devices, and software of stop motion animation. Explores and creates stop motion animations, using multiple materials, such as clay, armatures, puppets, 3D printers, cameras, and industry-standard production and post-production software, in solo and group projects. Recommended: MM 237. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the principles of animation and how those are manifested in stop motion animation.
- Create animation through character design and cinematography.
- Demonstrate industry-standard production and post-production skills in software applications and hardware tools for stop motion animation production.
- Analyze the history of stop motion animation and Portland's contributions to the field.
